Last summer was so sunny and hot that all our trees and shrubs went crazy making berries. The aronia (black chokeberry) branches almost hit the ground being so heavy with berries. Many people have asked us are we eating aronia berries since they are superfood. They contain an unusually large number of antioxidants and vitamins and are supposed to help fight all sorts of diseases. So, we thought, why not test.
Well, the berry itself tastes awful, very bitter. You should have seen my face! But I found a recipe for aronia and apple jam. Which was great, because we also got a couple of bags of apples from my Dad’s garden. (Apple trees went crazy last summer too.) The jam is actually really nice. I always have toast with jam for breakfast and the aronia and apple jam is great for that. Our neighbor tried it with pancakes, also good. You could also use it for cakes and pastries. I couldn’t find the exact same recipe in English, but here’s similar and this one’s for aronia and apple jelly.
